Jan 2021 – Mehmet Orman receives prestigious NSF CAREER AWARD!

Jan 2021 – Hanny Ngo, Shayne Sensenbach, and Sreyashi Ghosh have joined the Orman Lab!

Dec 2020 – Our undergraduate student, Jerardo Salgado, receives PURS scholarship.

May 2020 – Our undergraduate students, Laura Rossodivita and Tahimy Landestoy, receive SURF fellowships.

January 2020 – Mehmet Orman receives an R01 Award (single PI) from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. This grant (1.9M) will be used to characterize a self-digestion-mediated persistence mechanism in bacteria. We are aiming to explore the therapeutic potential of this complex process.

June 2019 – Our high school student, Maria Bolanos, receives ACS-GHS scholarship. Maria will continue to work on bacterial persisters during the summer.

May 2019 – Our graduate student, Adesola Saba, receives a prestigious National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. Congratulations to Adesola!

May 2019 – Our undergraduate student, Nhi Tran, receives the Provost’s Undergraduate Research Scholarship (PURS). PURS provides talented UH juniors and seniors with the opportunity to participate in a semester-long research project under the direction of a UH faculty mentor.

May 2019 – Our undergraduate students, Cristian Oviedo and Diego Figueroa, receive SURF fellowships. Cristian and Diego will work on bacterial persisters.

January 2019 – Our graduate students, Adesola Saba, Prashant Karki, and Sayed Mohiuddin, present their research at 2nd Annual Texas Medical Center AMR and Stewardship Conference, Houston.

June 2018 – Our lab welcomes to Maria Bolanos, a high school student. Maria has received the American Chemical Society-Greater Houston Section (ACS-GHS) scholarship!

May 2018 – Nga Le and Thao Vy Nguyen, our under graduate students, receive the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships – UH (SURF-UH).  SURF provides funding for rising UH sophomores, juniors, and seniors to participate in a focused, full-time, 10-week research experience with a $4000 scholarship.

January 2018 – Mehmet Orman receives a K22 Career Transition Award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases!  This award provides 250k in direct costs to awardees at the onset of their independent research career as a tenure-track Assistant Professor.
